Highland Glen Park Amenities

First and foremost, Highland Glen Park covers 3.25 acres, so you’re going to get a lot of bang for your buck when you visit. But let’s talk about exactly what there is to do here that makes it such a well-loved park.

Playground

No park is complete without a playground. As far as playgrounds go, the one at Highland Glen Park is a decent size. It’s definitely not one of those newfangled modern themed playgrounds, but the kids aren’t going to care – it’s fun enough to help them burn off some of that extra energy.

Pavilion

Highland Glen Park boasts a huge pavilion that seats up to 100 people (!), so if you want to host a family reunion or other type of large gathering, this is the place to go. There is a booking process and reservation fee, however, where half-day reservations cost $20.00 for residents of Highland city, and $70.00 for non-residents, and full day reservations cost $40.00 for residents and $100.00 for non-residents.

Full-Day$40.00$100.00

If you book the pavilion for a full day, you are entitled to use it from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm.

Half-day reservation times are as follows:

Morning8:00 am-2:00 pm
Afternoon3:00 pm-8:00 pm
However, keep in mind that any scheduled times falling within morning AND afternoon time frames will be charged the full day price.

Picnic Areas

The park makes for a perfect place for an afternoon picnic. There are large grassy picnic areas for those who want to lay down a picnic blanket, or you can keep it “civilized” and claim one of the many picnic tables available. Worst-case scenario: park yourselves on a park bench (there are plenty). There are also BBQ grills if you’re feeling like it’s more of a grilled hot dog/hamburger kind of day! Just bring the charcoal.

Pond for Water Activities

No doubt about it, the main draw of the place is the Highland Glen Park pond. See it for the first time and you’ll be wondering how such a water activity haven can exist in suburbia. Well it does, and it’s awesome! The water activity is yours for the picking, whether you want to fish, swim, paddleboard, row out on kayaks, or float around. The lake goes up to 18 feet deep, and it’s plenty big enough to explore. Two things, though: 1) there are no lifeguards on duty, so swim at your own risk, and 2) you can’t launch motorized vehicles into the pond.

If nothing else, you can wade in the pond alongside the tons of ducks and geese that call the park “home”.

Fishing at Highland Glen Park: Info and Regulations

If you’re a casual fisherman or want to introduce the littles to your favorite pastime, the Highland pond is the place to go. It offers nice, flat shoreline spots, as well as the option to float out on non-motorized, small boats. The fishing pond is stocked every year, where you are most likely to catch Channel Catfish, Rainbow Trout, and Bluegill (perch). The daily Bag & Possession limit is 2 fish total, and anglers are encouraged to voluntarily release all Largemouth Bass.

Highland Glen Park falls under the community pond fishing regulations of Utah.

Hit the Trails

Nature trails run all around Highland Glen Park. For instance, you can take a walk or jog on the trail that circles the pond, where 2.5 laps equals one mile. Along this trail are some platforms and docks so you can follow them to access the water. There is also access to the larger trail system, Murdock Canal bike trail.

Are Dogs Allowed at Highland Glen Park?

Yes! Dogs are allowed at Highland Glen Park. Technically, they need to be on a leash at all times. However, reviewers of the park have noted that the place is very dog-friendly and that dogs can often be seen swimming or even accompanying their owners on a paddle board!

Things to Know Before You Go

  • Highland Glen Park has two sets of bathrooms: one near the pond, and one near the playground.
  • There are no lifeguards on duty, so be sure to watch your kids carefully.
